Among known piezoelectric materials, the AlN thin film has the fastest SAW propagation speed, the AlN SAW device has good chemical and thermal stability and extremely high sensitivity to the external environment including pressure, temperature, stress, and gas, and is compatible with conventional Si CMOS technology, thus becoming a key component for passive sensing, wireless sensing, and mobile signal processing. With the rapid development of wireless communication technology in the recent ten years, SAW sensors, resonators, and filters are expected to replace traditional semiconductor devices in realizing miniaturization, multifunction and high-cost performance, and become the core technology of future complex systems.
